A primary source history of Minnehaha Park and its neighborhood, showing postcards, historic texts. engravings, antique photographs, and stereoviews. The image is a antique real photo postcard made by an amateur photographer.

Welcome to urbancreek! While this web site is still a work in progress, I hope some of the pictures here will show off a very few of the items in my collection. And I'm always looking for more stories, more pictures, souvenirs, memories, and memorobilia from Minnehaha Park. If you've got anything you'd like me to know about, please contact me at hello@urbancreek.com.

Summer 2004 is an exciting time to be interested in the Falls. There's a exhibit on the Upper Mississippi showing at the Minneapolis Art Institute, called Currents of Change. If you go, you'll get a chance to see some wonderful old oil paintings of the falls, and a little bit about the enormous cultural importance of Longfellow's poem "Song of Hiawatha." That will run through 26 September.

Also current is the Edina Arts Center's exhibit called "22 Miles: a celebration of Minnehaha Creek." This exhibit features images from all along the creek, as well as the Falls, and these are done in fabric, poetry, pastel, oil, watercolor and more. It's a great look at local talent. If you noticed that painting of Minnehaha Falls in winter that was in the Fine Arts exhibit at the State Fair a couple of years ago, you'll get another chance to admire it over in Edina. This exhibit only goes through August 21, however. Get over there while you can. The air conditioning in both of these places feels great on a hot summer day.
