Karen's graphic: Stereoviews: the Falls in Depth.Go to the Stereoviews section index.

A winter scene, from the south side of the Falls. The ground is covered with snow.

The Falls were almost always photographed in late autumn, winter, or early spring. This looks like late winter to me. This view was published by a bookseller, not (I presume) a photographer, as the mount reads, "Published by F.A. Taylor, Bookseller and Stationer, 148 Third Street, St. Paul, Minn.", and "Stereographs of Minnesota Scenery, from Taylor's Bookstore, St. Paul", and "641 Minnehaha in Winter".

Third Street in St. Paul seems to have been photographer's row.

A close-up of the right image. Seems like late winter.

It's hard to tell that there's a 40-foot drop off just beyond that large tree in the center of the image.

This image also appears in the "Illustrated Tales" section. If you got here from there, you can jump back.
